A personal service for your loved one

Every funeral is personal and unique

At Maldon Fields Crematorium, we allow you to have the service of your choice, befitting for your loved one. Making these decisions is naturally difficult and our team, as well as the Funeral Director, are always on-hand to guide you through the various options which are so much more varied these days.

A Range of Options

Funerals are much more individual these days with bereaved families able to choose from a wide range of possibilities to create the service of their own design. The extra time allowed within our chapel, approximately 45 minutes with the option to extend, means that there is no rush with the chance to include as many features as you wish:

  • Our multi-faith chapel, or ceremonial space, has been designed to be flexible, open and light, free of religious features so that you can choose its style. For many, a non-religious service is now appropriate and our design respects that choice. We look after those with a faith too and will provide more traditional features, such as a cross, for a Christian service. It is your decision.
  • The ceremonial space can also be decorated with personal items of your loved one. Photographs can be placed alongside the coffin along with other personal items to celebrate their personality and honour their memory in a truly individual way.
  • Music is very important of course and our specialist system, Obitus, has an almost infinite library allowing you to choose the pieces that mean most – from a chart hit to a traditional hymn; a sports anthem to classical. Anything is possible, please just ask as we will do our best to ensure that we find all the music that you need.
  • Music is often played on entry to the chapel as well as at the end with the opportunity for pieces to accompany a Tribute (see below) or provide a period of reflection in the heart of the service.
  • Photographs of your loved one can be displayed in a slideshow or tribute set to their favourite music. There are a number of possible tribute options which our team can explain in more detail and this has become an important and poignant way for a life to be remembered.
  • All forms of live music are welcomed.
  • Family pets are allowed in our chapel as long as they are well behaved and don’t impact on others. It is always a difficult balance but we will always try and accommodate all of your wishes.
  • And you can choose to release doves at the end of the service if that provides some comfort. Again, just ask.
  • You can extend the length of your service by booking extra time. Please speak to your Funeral Director when first arranging your service if possible to ensure that sufficient time is set aside for you.
  • Weekend services are also available on request.
  • Simple send offs are also possible and we offer shorter services at the beginning of the day at a reduced fee if helpful.

We are here to help so that you can have the service of your choice, a meaningful event for your loved one’s final farewell.

Streaming of funeral services

Maldon Fields is able to provide live streaming of the funeral service, by a discreet camera at the back of the chapel for those mourners who can’t attend in person. Ideally, this should be organised with the Funeral Director when booking the service.

The service can also be recorded with this option available for up to 28 days after the funeral took place. This can feel a strange option initially but funerals should provide some comfort and relief and it can be helpful to look back at the service and remember those special moments of collective grief and remembrance. A eulogy or reading by a family member or friend is one example where the memory might be cherished.

Guidance for when viewing a live stream

  • Please test your connection ahead of the live streaming viewing to ensure you can log in to the system correctly. Check the internet connection to your device is stable and good quality.
  • Enter your log in details by cutting and pasting from the notification email rather than re-typing the codes (that way you’ll avoid mistyping these).
  • Try to avoid watching live streams on mobile data connections and use Wi-Fi if at all possible.
  • Please ensure that any updates or background tasks on your device have been cleared or completed – it is possible that these may interfere with the connection.
  • If sharing a Wi-Fi connection with other devices, it’s sensible to ask other users not to use the internet whilst you are watching the webcast, - this may interfere with your connection.
  • If your webcast view is static or does not start on time, try to refresh your browser.
